One of the government requirements in getting a reverse mortgage is that you need to talk with an independent 3rd party about the pros and cons of a reverse mortgage.
There are HUD approved counseling agencies in every state and in most of the larger communities. Below is a link to a HUD web page with a list by state of the different counseling agencies.
However, not all of the companies on this list offer reverse mortgage counseling. Each company lists the type of couseling they perform. What you want to look for is "HECM". This is the abbreviation for "Home Equity Conversion Mortgage".
